Moments at Public Safety and Security Command Center
Model A requires a major field trip (which is in Manila) and a minor field trip (which will be held here). We have chosen this model officially after submitting the letter pertaining to this event. The class officers decided to have our minor field trip in Public Safety and Security Command Center or PSSCC in Sandawa, Davao City.
August 25, 2012 – It was the day for our minor field trip. Even though I grew up here in Davao City, I was not really familiar with PSSCC. I thought we are going to the Central 911 office. Then I realized that PSSCC is different from Central 911. During our visit there, they have explained what the office is all about. Though, they are coordinated with Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Davao Traffic Management Command (TMC), Central 911, Red Cross, and, Central 911, Red Cross, and many more. I have also learned that they are not the ones who enforces but what they do is that they help the enforcement agency in the city in solve crimes. The speakers have shown us their facilities and I was very much amazed. If you looked at the build building from the outside it seemed to be so small. But when we enter some parts of the building, it was actually huge.
We have entered the command center. There were computer units, servers and big monitors that really looked so expensive. We actually witnessed the employees of the office do their jobs. They control the cameras that were installed around the city to see if there are crimes that had happened. The speakers kept on insisting that PSSCC is not an enforcement agency. They were only formed to help the security of the city; especially, most of the threats are outside the city. They may have also installed cameras everywhere but they never broke someone’s privacy.
As the talk continues inside the command center, they also showed us some of the videos that they have captured in their surveillance. Most of the videos are about drivers who disobeyed traffic rules; like for example hit-and-run, crimes like robbery and even bribery. It really does help a lot. It made every citizen of this city feel more relaxed and at ease. PSSCC seemed to be the “Eagle eye” of the city.
One more thing that made me more impressed is when they told us, and even showed us a video about Davao City government will be having partnership with IBM to make the security of the people tighter. It is showed there that the government wanted to make the city the IT hub in the Philippines.
Recommendation
There is only one problem that had happened before the minor field trip. The trip was postponed for many times. From August 10, 2012, it was changed to August 25, 2012. Aside from that, there is no other bad thing that ha d happened. “All is well”, I guess. I only hope that someday, in the next batch of students that will have minor field trip, they will have many companies or agencies to visit. I think two companies or agencies are enough for a day.
